Ronaldo who came in as a substitute in the game had already been shown the first yellow card two minutes before the second for taking his shirt off after scoring a screamer to put his team in the lead.


According to Article 96 of the Spanish federation’s rule book, any player who “grab, push or shake” a referee in a manner that is “slightly violent” could get a ban of 4 to 12 matches.

The referee stated in his match report: “Once I showed him the red card, the player (Ronaldo) pushed me lightly showing discomfort.”
